subtitle.im

subtitle.im is a Chrome extension that manages existing YouTube captions. It automatically turns on available captions, detects subtitles already embedded in the video, and closes duplicate captions according to your settings. You can restore captions at any time from the player menu.

For subtitles in different languages, choose whether to close captions automatically, ask first, or keep them. Manual CC changes stop automatic adjustment for the current viewing. When detection has insufficient evidence, captions stay on.

Subtitle recognition runs locally in your browser; captured video frames and recognized text are not uploaded. The interface supports English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Arabic and Hindi.

Try it without registration: the free quota covers 10 different videos where duplicate captions are successfully closed. Optional annual or lifetime Pro access removes this quota and enables saved video/channel rules.

subtitle.im does not generate, translate or download subtitles, and does not remove subtitles embedded in video pixels.
